Rishi looked as if he'd just realized that his mouth was open, was having trouble closing it. At last he got it shut, swallowed visibly. "What--" he repeated. Then as if he knew what are you doing or what's going on were too obvious and too pathetic as questions, he said, "This...this is a joke, right?" Shory could see Rishi's uncertainty shift to a decision that it wasn't, no. And that Rishi didn't like it at all. "This isn't funny."
"We certainly think it's entertaining. Next best thing to funny, wouldn't you say?" Arix's words had been light; his next were leered. "Ever see anything so pretty?"
The sound of the bar being set back into place across the door echoed in the room. Ystav turned from the door he'd just closed, his back to it. Shory's pulse pounded against his constricted throat; it wasn't Shory's escape route that had been cut off, no. Now Arix and Ystav had trapped Rishi in here as well.
