| Week #86 - Yellow Box |
[Nov. 14th, 2009|07:57 am] |
This week's theme is:
yellow box
~Entries are due by November 20th, at midnight (EST).
~This one was suggested by the lovely hervictory. You might write something taking place in the Yellow Box warehouse, either during the final scene of Death Note, or before, or after. You might write about a yellow box--perhaps containing chocolate, or baby organs, or another Death Note. Anyway, have fun!
~Please put this in the subject and tag lines of your posts: week #86 - yellow box. Tag with your user name, too. |

| | cheerful | ] | It's been a really long time since I've had dreams, ambitions, been a really long time since that didn't seem like a form of the utmost arrogance. Mostly I've been living from one day to the next, taking steps as they come and not really daring to look further ahead. And now I've got all these ideas and possibilities and things I might like to do, and some of them are stupid and ridiculous but they're there, things I want, and why the fuck shouldn't I allow myself to think about them?
It seems a step forward has been made, somewhere in the brain pan, And It Is Good.
In conclusion: :D |

splatchtrock reports on the creation of a new and improved version of the old favourite "Rock, Paper, Scissors" And no, it's not "Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock", although that is also cheering :P
70 Baaaaaby Animals!
Some very clever and sligtly disturbing photo manipulations by digital artist Jan Oliehoek. They're awfully impressive, but some are freaky, like the zebra-frog o_O I want to live in the house :)
Now I am about to watch Sky High with splatchtrock and pink_crayon16. Whee! |

[Nov. 14th, 2009|10:10 am] |
As predicted, I've just logged in to say: WHAT THE FUCK, BELA IS SO FUCKING HOT!
Really, it can't only be good genes, it must be either plastic surgery (at least botox) or a deal with the devil.
Now of course I regret not getting a ticket for Giessen today. *headdesk* But the sun is shining and I've never visited Dresden, so I should be busy enough not to think about it too much. And I'm going to Hamburg and Berlin anyway. Maybe I'll ask if I can take those 3 days off, so I can see both Hamburg shows and the Leipzig one as well.
Oh Bela, you turn me into such a stupid, hopeless fangirl...
All right, off to eat something and visit Dresden now! |

So, sarah and I are looking into establishing wholesale accounts with a few yarn companies, to buy materials for things we want to knit, buy materials for things we want to knit and sell, and put together group orders for local friends at a serious discount (wholesale plus a slight markup for processing fee). (With suitable encouragement we might also be motivated to expand this to online friends, although the prices would have to be higher for the annoyance factor and would include S&H costs.)
First on the list will be, of course, Noro (I'm an addict, okay?) We've also looked into Blue Heron Yarns a bit, and Schaefer Yarns is another possibility. Does anyone else have any absolutely favorite yarns that should get put on the list?

http://www.overheardinnewyork.com/archives/020922.html Obviously inebriated brunette: So... I'm pretty sure I'm going to die tonight. Obviously inebriated blonde: Well, if we do, I think I should put up a Facebook status so everyone knows. Obviously inebriated brunette: I'm pretty sure the tox screen will show it. (ten seconds later) Obviously inebriated brunette: Kill me. Oh, wait, no need. I'll be dead in three hours. Obviously inebriated blonde: Just don't go dying in my bed... that's creepy. (five seconds later) Obviously inebriated brunette: Um... did you just burp? Obviously inebriated blonde: Yeah. Why? Obviously inebriated brunette: Because it just went up my nose. Obviously inebriated blonde: Now... that's legendary.

| Late Night Harry Potter Art Post |
[Nov. 13th, 2009|10:54 pm] |
I'm actually very proud of this series of watercolors. They're not as "artsy" as the last series of portraits I did, but I think they are very charming, which is what I associate HP with.

( Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Luna, Neville, and Trevor )
Not too much to say on this one, other than Ginny took two tries to get right. And I'm glad I re-did them because I *adore* how Ginny came out here. Luna is also a fave of mine . . . and Heck Hermione came out wonderfully too. I think I did especially well on all the girls ^__^ |

[Nov. 13th, 2009|11:53 pm] |
White Collar
I am totally crushing on Peter Burke. <- that is not a spoiler.
He's cranky and rumpled and competent and smart, and did I mention cranky? I find that kind of irresistible.

So I keep checking my gmail, waiting for my yuletide assignment, and then I remember I signed up with the unfit address and I check that one instead. *facepalm*
Speaking of assignments, I sent out the Broken Toys assignments tonight. We got a whole twelve people participating (including me and ranalore, and you wouldn't think it'd be that hard to match that few people up, but there were a couple of tricky things. I managed it, though. Or, at least, I haven't heard back from anyone in horror yet anyway.
Now I just have to decide which prompt to write.

The lightbulb in my kitchen, the five-year long-life lightbulb, burned out about six months after I bought it.
I wanted some toast so, after ascertaining that tightening it wasn't the issue, I got a hand-held LED lamp I use in emergencies, carried it into the kitchen, and watched it flicker and die.
Ergo, at the hardware store tomorrow I need to buy:
1/2" nails for hanging pictures Duct tape, 'cause I'm out Zipties for some cords I need to tidy up A new lightbulb AND SOME ROCK SALT, JUST IN CASE MY KITCHEN IS POSSESSED.
They're going to think I'm either a mad scientist or a serial killer. |

TITLE: Oh, boy! PERPETRATOR: Wildflower SUE-O-METER: (bad)
FULL NAME: Kana Fujiko aka Daisuke Hayate SPECIES: Witch HAIR: "shoulder-length black hair was now cropped and slightly ruffled" EYES: not described MARKINGS: "You could still see me, as Kana, but my once delicate girly features are now, stronger more defined and boyish. My shoulders had broadened and my muscles grew." POSSESSIONS: a "School Memories" photo album with "photos and Origami decorated the pages". Mmmm, pepper-jack cheese tastes so good. A Sue-friend named Beth.
ORIGIN: She is Japanese, so the story is littered with Japanese references. After drinking what she thinks is Felix Felicis, she is turned into a boy. Now that she's a boy Sirius Black is "giving her the eye". She likes this. CONNECTIONS TO CANON: Wants to bone Sirius Black. Is a grandmother figure to Rose Weasley. She calls her "Obaasan". She was in Hufflepuff, and is a chaser on the Hufflepuff quidditch team. SPECIAL ABILITIES: Tries hard not to be a Sue: "I'm a little lazy, stubborn, sarcastic, unsmart, a little clumsy and I guess now, annoying".
NOTES: I don't find the writing bad or cheesy, just the idea.

| I am still in London |
[Nov. 14th, 2009|12:49 am] |
New Fall Out Boy song: From Now On We Are Enemies.
I had great news to impart about getting a job interview with Imperial College London but it turned out that was an admin error and I wasn't actually shortlisted. I was supposed to be going home today but I postponed the journey to find out when the interview was scheduled in case it was soon, making it more sensible for me to stick around in London rather than running up and down the country. So I've just wasted my bus ticket and need to get an injection into my account from the Bank Of Grandparents before I can afford a replacement ticket. *insert mish-mash of swearing, groaning and wailing*
I'll buy another bus ticket for tomorrow or Sunday and impose myself on apiphile for a bit longer.
In better news, I have had an excellent two weeks in London and probably should have blogged about it before the fuzziness of memory rubbed away some of the details. Have a couple of videos taken from the Horniman Museum yesterday. ( And some photos. ) |

| seriously, why is this my life? |
[Nov. 13th, 2009|07:06 pm] |
So, today I had an appointment with a new gynecologist to discuss Certain Things. It ... went about as well as most of my doctor appointments go.
( cut for discussion of insides )
So, that makes three new doctors in a row I've walked (okay, wheeled) out on. The only good thing about this one is that I staged my wheelout before I had to put on the stupid paper gown. Well, okay, that and the fact that I totally deserved therapy yarn after that, so we went to the yarn store afterwards. (Noro heals everything.) Plus, thank fuck my prescriptions arrived in the mail today, so I have painkillers again HALLELUJAH.
(Local ladies, if anyone's got an OB/GYN visit coming up soon and is willing to ask your doctor a few questions about whether or not s/he would be willing to do the procedure on me with no lip, no backtalk, and no arguing, drop me a line so I can give you the details?)
